Restaurant Owner In Clemson Doesn't Like Guns

Apparently, he doesn't like making money either.

As you may recall from my earlier breakdown of the new CWP law, bars and restaurants in SC who don't want patrons to carry concealed simply need to post a standard sign to prohibit CWP on their premises.

The legal sign you need to post looks like this:

That's the legal sign. In fact, it's the only sign that carries any legal force. Any deviation from this sign renders the sign ineffective. It's also pretty straightforward. Not a lot of editorializing.

However, the super-genius running this place in Clemson decided to post this sign:

Not a legal sign. Also, weapons-grade stupid.

Now, I have no problem with folks who want to prohibit carry in their establishments. Freedom of speech, freedom of association, it's all good. This guy is fine to do whatever he likes with his business, just as I'm free to go where I want - or not go.

The good news is this guy is going to get a very good real-world example of how the free market works. People on the left love to say that the free market needs to be regulated. Well I have a little secret for them - it is.

The free market is not regulated by a few people in some office in Washington, DC - it's regulated by everyone. My guess is that the free market in the upstate of South Carolina is going to deal with this restaurant, and this guy will either take this offensive sign down, or he'll go out of business.

On another note, where this guy goes terribly wrong is his intolerance about the whole CWP issue. I'm sure this guy is a stereotypical leftist who thinks that tolerance and diversity are great things -- except when your thoughts are not Approved Thoughts. There's no room in this guy's world for people who disagree with him on an issue. They're "losers" and "douche bags" not deserving of his tolerance.

This happens all the time with the left. Thoughts that aren't Approved Thoughts™ are de-legitimized and  mocked, but are never dealt with on the merits. For example, if you don't believe in man-made global warming, you're a "Denier" who doesn't believe in "Science". It goes on and on.

The left is all about tolerance and understanding until you step out of their Approved Thought Group and have an independent thought of your own.

But please, tell me more about how the conservatives are the ones who are so close-minded.

NCAA Baseball to Change Baseballs?

Did you know that the baseball used in NCAA is not the same type of baseball used in Major League Baseball? I knew the bats were different, but I just figured that all baseballs are the same.

Apparently, not. Although there may be a push to have the NCAA go with the same ball that the pros use.

Leggett has an idea that he believes could find a happy medium for the game. Leggett is pushing for a change in the ball that is used in the college game. He wants to switch to the ball used in professional baseball.

Did you have any idea the ball was different?

“They’re not going to change the bats,” Leggett said, “so I think going to the minor-league baseball, a little bit harder ball with lower seams and a little bit more carry on the ball, you’ve got a more exciting game.”

I think that Leggett actually has a good idea here. The more you can make the NCAA game like the MLB game, it will be easier for the the players to try and make the jump to the minor leagues (and hopefully) the majors.

Clemson. They actually have a good idea.

Clemson Hostage Situtation Resolved

For you Clemson fans out there, the past week has been a nail-biter, with the hostage standoff between Dabo Swinney and Nkemdiche. It's now over.

The hostage crisis began in early July, when Nkemdiche laid out his demand to have Clemson offer a teammate in early July in order to "lock up" his commitment to Clemson. After much controversy and diplomacy, the strike team was called in. The hostage taker was captured, water-boarded, and is now no longer a threat. The New York Times has the story:

“Of course I would want to play with him,” Nkemdiche said of Carter. “But if it doesn’t work out, I’ll still go to Clemson.”

Crisis averted, Clemson. Just be prepared for the BeastMode invasion on 11/24.

Wheel Route Perfection

CJ Spiller used to run a really devastating wheel route for Clemson. I think Marcus Lattimore has had a few catches running the same route, but CJ Spiller really did this well. Here's the basic play:

We continue our odyssey into Clemson football with Myth #3: Running down the hill is "the most exciting 25 seconds in college football".

Wow. OK. I'm not sure it's "the most exciting 25 seconds in college football". I think I will refer to it as "the 25 seconds before Clemson starts disappointing their fans".

 There seem to be a few Clemson fans out there excited about the idea/speculation of the SEC inviting the Tigers to join their conference, should massive realignment take place across the college football landscape.

Be careful what you wish for.

Clemson has a losing record against every SEC school except for South Carolina. (Well, and Mississippi State, which it's 1-1-1 against). Overall, the Tigers are 112-160-14 against the SEC. Do you still want to line up against Alabama, Auburn and Georgia every year?

2011 Clemson Tigers Football Prediction

Ok, I know that I promised a prediction for both USC and Clemson Football. As you may have seen from my earlier prediction for the Gamecocks, it was quite a long post. Accordingly, it has taken me awhile to do the Clemson prediction, as I'm not quite as familiar with the Tigers. In any event, my 2011 Clemson Tigers Prediction is below the jump:

Clemson Tigers NCAA Preview

I've been receiving feedback that we need at least a little Clemson information here at PP.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

OUTLOOK: Extending periods of losing are not acceptable in Death Valley, so expect Swinney to have his team ready to step up in 2011. After opening with Troy and Wofford at home, the Tigers play a grueling three-game set comprised of home games against Auburn and Florida State and finally a road affair at Virginia Tech. We should know everything we need to know about this team by early October. The task at hand is daunting, but one that could pay the highest of dividends according to Swinney.

Official predictions for both USC and Clemson will be forthcoming in the next week or so.
