Manti Te'o's Girlfriend

College football has the best offseason ever. The most inspirational story from one of the most storied programs in college football history has one of their most celebrated players at the center of a hoax.

Ok, first this is funny. It's like the Indiana version of "Weekend at Bernie's" or something. I don't know. All I know is that this is a ridiculous fact pattern. I have a hard time accepting ND's version of events.

As I said before, this is funny.

BCS Championship - Who You Got?

Tonight, Alabama and Notre Dame play in the BCS Championship for the national title. It's Forrest Gump vs. Rudy, Cousins vs. Catholics, Pachyderms vs. Papists.

Who you got? My prediction is that the Alabama defense is going to slow down the Notre Dame offense enough to keep the game low-scoring, and turnovers will decide the game. Can Notre Dame play fundamental football, play mistake-free football, and keep pace with the vaunted SEC? We'll see...

Fearless Permanent Press Prediction:

Forrest Gump: 24
Rudy:              27

Yeah, I'm picking the upset. Also, I like the South Carolina connection Notre Dame has. If you haven't been paying attention to college football, the Notre Dame quarterback, Everett Golson, is from the Palmetto State.

The ACC, Notre Dame, and Wishful Thinking

Despite what I have said in these pages before, people just don't want to listen to me. That's fine. If you ACC folks want to keep sticking your fingers in your ears and going: lalalalalala, I can't hear you... well, what are you going to do, right?

Another "expert" is saying that Notre Dame will be joining the ACC.
Even if you are Notre Dame, there can come a time when the brand needs to be extended. That’s the appeal the ACC offers.
Does even watch college football?

Newsflash Caulton, but the ACC isn't exactly the best "brand name" in the world right now. Also, Notre Dame is recruiting just fine, thank you very much.

You think Notre Dame wants to lose all the traditional rivalries they have across the country and be forced to play NC State and Duke every year? By joining the ACC, Notre Dame would have to give up a big portion of their schedule, they would lose the NBC television contract, and they wouldn't have that special status of being an independent. There's a lot to be said for controlling your own destiny.

The ACC would benefit greatly, but Notre Dame...not so much. Keep wishing, ACC.

Tommy Rees Practicing With the First Team

The last time we saw young Tommy Rees, he was showing off his UFC fighting skills against local law enforcement in an attempt to distract everyone from the fact that he's a poor decision maker with weak arm and bad downfield vision.

So, to all the Notre Dame fans who are looking to get rid of the troubled quarterback who can't seem to stop throwing the ball to the other team: Your coach has decided to give him another chance, and Reese is practicing with the team.

Get used to this image, Notre Dame fans

Welcome to #TeamGarcia, Notre Dame fans. Only this version of #TeamGarcia doesn't have naked girls in hotel rooms, keg parties in the front lawn, and he's going to get you a loss against Michigan State.

Notre Dame Files Suit Against HHS Regulation

The University of Notre Dame has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court against the Obama Administration's Department of Health and Human Services. The University claims that the federal government of the United States does not have the power to force it to provide for or pay for services (birth control) that violates its own conscience.
“We do not seek to impose our religious beliefs on others; we simply ask that the government not impose its values on the university when those values conflict with our religious teachings,” University of Notre Dame President Fr. John Jenkins, C.S.C., said in a May 21 letter.
I'm honestly surprised that Obama is fighting this battle. I know he is going to try and spin this as a "war on women" but the funny thing about Court is that Judges don't really put up with "spin". They kind of have this hang-up for legal arguments. HHS is going to lose this suit. They cannot force a religious group to violate their beliefs. It doesn't matter what those beliefs are. If you doubt me, I would refer you to this.

Talk about shaking down the thunder. Notre Dame is stepping right into the center of what is going to be a very controversial issue, but that's what people do over matters of conscience and principle.

I wonder how Notre Dame is feeling about awarding Obama that honorary degree now.
Thanks for the degree, suckers.

South Carolina 2011 Football Media Guide

Life of a Gamecock has a picture of the four horsemen of the SEC apocalypse. All apologies to Notre Dame, but these four are going to be great this year. Hopefully, "he who must not be mentioned" doesn't hijack an airplane and get suspended again. Barring that, USC looks primed for a season for the ages.

If you're one of those people that constantly craves updates on all things USC sports, http://www.lifeofagamecock.com/ is a site worth bookmarking.
