Kennedy's Concurring Opinion Explained In a One-Act Play

While waiting on hold (with a government office) I had time to compose this short play, which I call: Kennedy’s Concurring Opinion. I hope you all like it.

HHS: Welcome to our office here at HHS. Here, drink some coffee.

Hobby Lobby: I only drink decaf coffee, but I see you have some of that. Since you have that available, I’ll take that.

HHS: Decaf coffee is for other people, not you! Drink this regular coffee! Do it!

Hobby Lobby: Look, you’ve got plenty of decaf coffee for everyone. It’s right there. Can I just have some decaf?

HHS: We get to decide what kind of coffee you get. Now drink this regular coffee!

Hobby Lobby: Hey…I didn’t come here to argue. If this is going to be a problem, I’ll just leave.

HHS: No. You’re not going anywhere. You’re going to sit here and drink some coffee, and it’s going to be regular!

Hobby Lobby: Ummmm….can I speak to your supervisor or something?

Supervisor Kennedy: What’s the problem here?

HHS: This person won’t drink the regular coffee. They’re demanding decaf!

Supervisor Kennedy: What’s this marked “Decaf" right here?

HHS: That’s decaf coffee.

Supervisor Kennedy: Looks like you have plenty of decaf. And didn’t I just see you give decaf coffee to the last person?

HHS: Yeah, but the last person was wearing a suit, and this guy is sitting here wearing a t-shirt!

Supervisor Kennedy: Seems kind of arbitrary if you ask me. You’re telling me that you made all this coffee, and made both decaf and regular, so as to give it to people who came to your office, but you don’t want to accommodate this particular guy’s choice?

HHS: Yes.

Supervisor Kennedy: Give this guy some decaf.

Gov. Jindal Proposes End to Birth-Control Politics

Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal, has what is going to be a much talked-about op-ed in this morning's Wall Street Journal. He's proposing that birth control simply be available over-the-counter rather than requiring a doctor's visit and a prescription.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists announced its support last month for selling oral contraceptives over the counter without a prescription in the United States. I agree with this opinion, which if embraced by the federal government would take contraception out of the political arena.

I agree with this idea. There's no reason that oral contraceptives should require a prescription, when the morning-after pill does not. Politically, this is a simple move. The Democrats ran around last election cycle and screamed about Republicans who were going to take away everyone's birth control. Making birth control the equivalent of buying aspirin would end that line of attack. So, politically this is a winner.

Practically, it also makes sense. It eliminates needless doctor's visits, and increased competition would probably lead to a price decrease. I'll be interested to see if the social conservatives get heartburn from this proposal. For what it's worth, I'm usually in favor or reducing restrictions and regulations for people buying things. It's time to end the need for a prescription for birth control.

Someone Alert Sandra Fluke

An 18-wheeler full of condoms will be stopping in Columbia to give them out for free.

On Friday, May 4, the "Condom Nation" tour will stop at the corner of Millwood and House Streets in Columbia from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and then from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., the tour will be at Tony's Snack Shop on Bluff Rd. just east of Interstate 77.

Free condoms! I'm sure that Sandra Fluke would want to know about this so she can protest and complain about how they aren't giving out birth control specifically for women. This is just another example of how men are so sexist.

Rep. Trey Gowdy Grills Secretary Sebelius

Via the NY Sun, this five minute video shows local upstate boy, South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy, absolutely destroy Secretary of HHS Kathleen Sebelius. This really highlights the divide between the parties today:

Imagine that. A lawmaker wants to talk about the law.

I want to puke when she says that she doesn't pretend to understand the nuance of Constitutional law. She understands it fine - she just doesn't give a damn. Her goal is to advance contraception/healthcare/whatever she wants in any manner that she can regardless of the Constitution.

On a related note, what kind of idiot wants insurance coverage for birth control? Birth control is a regular, predictable, and recurring expense that people have. Insurance is for irregular, unpredictable, and catastrophic expenses that can be spread out over a large group.

Asking for insurance to cover your birth control is like asking for insurance to cover your deodorant.
