Some Sectors of the Economy Are Doing Just Fine

Palmetto State Armory announced Thursday it will make a $4.2 investment to add extra space and renovate their facility on Old Dunbar Road.

According to the release, 300 new jobs will be created.

Rifle Maker Is Loving SC After Leaving CT

PTR Industries, a rifle manufacturer that left Connecticut for South Carolina, is getting a healthy dose of Southern hospitality.

“I have personally been able to get a very good feel from South Carolina, from the governor down to the local beat cops to your average citizen,” he said. “The welcoming has been tremendous. People on the street, cashiers at the gas station or the pizza place, or even TSA agents, they know who we are and they’re happy to have us. In Connecticut, we always felt like a dirty little secret. Down there, it’s very much the opposite.”

Looks like South Carolina is doing something right.

Elections Have Consequences

Remember Colorado's decision to enact stricter gun control last year?

Magpul Industries has finally made good on their promise to leave Colorado. They've announced that they will be taking their 250 jobs and moving to Texas and Wyoming. I'm sure the anti-gunners are probably happy to have Magpul gone anyway.

That's fine. I'm sure Texas and Wyoming are happy to welcome manufacturing jobs to their state. If you're going to be hostile to a particular industry, you shouldn't be surprised when they leave.

Maybe Colorado can make up the loss of jobs and revenue by selling more marijuana.

Gov. Haley Tours FN Plant and Fires Guns

I took the same tour about a year ago, but they didn't let me fire anything. Also, FN came to a Columbia Rotary club meeting awhile back, and they put on a nice presentation. That was the one of the very few Rotary meetings I've ever been to.

It's really great that FN Manufacturing is located here in the midlands. It's clear that Governor Haley is doing good work in getting companies to come to SC. The demand for firearms right now has to be at an all-time high, and certain states (Colorado) seem ready to push gun companies out for political reasons.

Did you know that Connecticut based rifle manufacturer decided to relocate to SC? $20 Million in economic impact per year sounds pretty nice to me.

These are good, high-skilled, highly technical jobs, and because of the nature of the product, they're less likely to be outsourced to a foreign country. Looks like South Carolina isn't screwing everything up.

Businesswoman Fails to Give Credit to Government

It's a wonderful small business success story in the lowcountry.

She employs 11 people in Mount Pleasant, another 11 sales representatives across the country and 16 more at a site in Indonesia. The 85 factory workers who stitch together are contractors.  

Some of her local employees do market research as well, working months ahead for next year’s fashions. 

She’s always looking for talented people to add to her work force, saying if she finds the right person, she would create a job for them. 

This lady is so ungrateful, right? Nowhere does she give anyone else any credit for her business success. As much as Castillo is smart to spot trends and works hard to grow her own little business, we all know who should really get the credit for her business succeeding.

This Man is About to Be Audited by the IRS

He has some pretty tough talk about the President's "understanding" of business and government.

I'm not sure that I would be quite that open if I were a top executive of a major corporation. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. Or maybe he just figures "It can't get any worse".
