I'm Busy - Go Visit My Favorite Food/Beer/Grilling Blog

Had a full day of litigation and transactional work, but being busy is a good problem to have.

Lots of things going on, so the blog will be light today. Don't worry, there will be lots of content upcoming, as I have to do my traditional Gamecock Football Prediction Post. I also have a few posts in mind, but the real trick these days is finding the time to actually get them down.

I'm always on the lookout for similar photos of the South from that time period, but they're harder to find.

I've got lots of work today (court, real estate closings, etc.) so I don't have time to break down all the scandals in DC. Suffice it to say that government sucks and politicians suck. But you already knew that.

Assault Weapons Ban Shot Down By Democrats

When we last left the senior senator from California, she was being ruthlessly overwhelmed by a simple legal question from the junior senator from Texas, which left her sputtering and unable to respond in any logical, relevant manner.

Now, it appears that her own party has abandoned her. (After seeing her performance, can you really blame them?) The senate majority leader has decided not to include Feinstein's assault weapons ban in the gun control package that he will bring to the floor for discussion.

After a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday, a frustrated Feinstein said she learned that the bill she sponsored — which bans 157 different models of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines — wouldn’t be part of a Democratic gun bill to be offered on the Senate floor. Instead, it can be offered as an amendment. But its exclusion from the package makes what was already an uphill battle an almost certain defeat.

We can expect lots of whining from the gun control crowd, and I'm sure they'll be very upset about all this. Garden & Gun Weekend

The bourbon will be substituted for rum this weekend, as I'll be attending my first Garden & Gun Club Event at Sea Island, GA. The theme is "An Ode to Havana and Key West".

The cocktails and evenings should be great, but I'm most looking forward to shooting some clays out on the what should be a really nice course with my favorite shooting partner (my dad). From what I've heard, the course is out along the marsh and waterway, so I'm hoping for a sporting clays version of The Ocean Course at Kiawah. I'll try to get some pictures and a review the sporting clays course which is said to be a "stunning mile long nature walk".

A Cuban party with some cigars afterwards sounds like a great way to unwind after multiple rounds of clays on Saturday.

Friday Morning Coffee Thread

I didn't watch Obama's speech last night, but I heard the guy can give a heck of a speech. If you're interested in how it went, Ann Althouse live-blogged it.

In more important local news, if you're like me, you've been frustrated with the lack of coverage at Williams-Brice Stadium when 80,000 plus people all try to make telephone calls and text at the same time. However, Verizon will be upping the capacity with a mobile cell site. This is great. Now, you can read my blog and follow me on twitter while you're at the game.
