Good Morning

Up and at 'em, campers. It's Friday.

Sometimes it pays to wake up early. You never know what you might see.

Disney and Human Nature

Happy Monday, y'all.

I can safely say that no actual turkeys were harmed in the making of this past weekend. So, if you were worried that I might have killed an innocent turkey, you can breathe easy. Oh, and for the record, they aren't as innocent as they look.

To start your week off right, here's a piece about what goes on behind the scenes at Disney-World and it pretty much covers everything you need to know human nature.

You really don't want to know what's inside these trunks.

I'll try to have some more newsy stuff up later today, depending on how the day goes.

This Osprey Is a Better Fisherman Than You

But you probably can't see as well as he can. And you probably don't have talons.

This is just a video of an osprey catching fish, but it's kind of mesmerizing.

This is how you fish with style.

Crow Uses Lid to Snowboard Down Roof [VIDEO]

Multiple times. He's definitely doing this on purpose - you know - for fun.

A snow boarding crow? Crow-boarding?

One thing to keep in mind is that crows are really smart as far as birds go. Crows have been known to pick up tough nuts and drop them onto a road where they are crushed by traffic, then going down and eating them. They can also distinguish different humans by recognizing human facial features.

Crows. Better keep an eye on them. Creepy suckers.

What the Hell Is Wrong With People?

I have a two year old son. He's pretty much the most important thing I have going on right now. Most of my time at home centers around him. I'm not saying that I'm Dad of The Year, but I'm doing OK. However, I just don't understand how people can have children and live like animals.

The story in The State throws in the splashy stuff about the loaded guns, which is certainly an issue, but what I just don't understand is how people can live in such horrible conditions.
The deputy found a 12-gauge shotgun and .22-caliber rifle, loaded and with the safety mechanisms off within reach of the children, ages 2 and 4, in the master bedroom, the report states. The deputy found more dirty clothes, rotting food and soiled linens on the children's beds. The deputy confiscated the weapons, the report states.

Read more here: http://www.thestate.com/2013/10/22/3052587/dss-loaded-weapons-filthy-conditions.html#storylink=cpy
The loaded weapons are obviously an accident waiting to happen. If you've read my blog at all, you know I'm a gun guy, so I don't have problems with having guns in a house, but you've got to be smart about it. You can't just have loaded weapons around with kids in the house. Especially at that age. They're old enough to get into things, but not old enough to know how dangerous things are. There's no excuse. It's monumentally stupid to the point of being criminally negligent.

However, what really gets me is the rotting food in the children's bed. What the hell is wrong with these people? That's not just an accidental thing. You've got to really be neglectful to allow food to rot. And in your child's bed? Are you kidding me? Heck, animals don't even live in conditions that bad. I apologize to the animals I offended with my earlier comparison.

I see stuff like this, and I realize how far our problems go. In my last post, I was discussing what books we should be reading to be good citizens. These people need to be reading fundamentals on how to clean up after your children before we start in on The Federalist Papers.

I just don't get it. What do you do with people like this?

Tea Party Cat

Yeah, I'm stealing things from Ace, because that's what the internet is for:

TEA PARTY CAT
I can laugh because there isn't much else to do.

When Is a Lion Not a Lion?

A Chinese zoo is under fire for trying to disguise a Tibetan mastiff dog for an African lion. The twisted scheme began to unravel when the supposed "African Lion" started to bark.

I'm a Chinese Lion!
That's hilarious. You gotta love those crazy Chinese zookeepers!

Ten Deadly Animals

The Cone Snail

This thing is very dangerous.
The Cone Snail is one of those animals that no one thinks about, but it is as deadly as it gets. Usually, one may not even realize they are handling a Cone Snail because the first thing you see is their beautiful shell. The snail underneath is an afterthought, but a deadly one.

Shell collectors end up picking one up and the snail's harpoon will stick into the person. What happens next depends on the Cone Snail. Each one has a different poison. The deadly ones have a Neurotoxin that will temporarily paralyze you. Then your body will start to shut down. You will also develop severe respiratory problems. This could be the worst part of it.
Note to self: don't touch shells anymore.

How to Handle a Mountain Lion in Your Office

I think that most people would be happy to be in an office because that means they would be employed. In any event, here are the tips. My favorite part:
If it’s not attacking, “Don’t start macing it. People think they can walk up to an animal and gently deal with it. You can’t. Just get away from it.”
Good idea. Don't antagonize a wild animal. As always, Permanent Press is always here to help in situations where wild animals are loose. Mountain lions in the office, tigers in the bathroom...you know...whatever.
