Disney and Human Nature

Happy Monday, y'all.

I can safely say that no actual turkeys were harmed in the making of this past weekend. So, if you were worried that I might have killed an innocent turkey, you can breathe easy. Oh, and for the record, they aren't as innocent as they look.

To start your week off right, here's a piece about what goes on behind the scenes at Disney-World and it pretty much covers everything you need to know human nature.

You really don't want to know what's inside these trunks.

I'll try to have some more newsy stuff up later today, depending on how the day goes.

Winter Storm Watch Issued for Midlands

Once again, we play our dangerous game, a game of chess against our old adversary -- The Winter Snow. For forty years, your father and your older brothers before you played this game and played it well. But today the game is different. We have the advantage.

Yes, the winter weather is headed our way again. Looks like the storm will hit the midlands on Tuesday night and persist until Wednesday. As always, drive safely.

One other note, unrelated to the weather: I'm fed up with The State website. They've cluttered it with drop-down ads, pop-up ads, and paywalls. Frankly, I've had enough, so I'm not going to be linking them anymore. There's never really a story on The State that isn't found elsewhere, so I'll go elsewhere. However, if I have to discuss something that is there and nowhere else, I'll be just generally discussing it without linking it. I know that The State isn't relying on me to send them traffic, but I'm just going to take a stand against bad websites that make it difficult to get to the content.

So yeah, mood status: Cranky

Kenny Miles Shot Himself Then Lied About It

I don't get this. So Kenny Miles shot himself, and then lied about it, saying that he had been robbed? Does that make sense to anyone?

I get that shooting yourself by accident is embarrassing. I've never shot myself, but if I did, I would be really embarrassed, because that means I was doing something stupid and/or unsafe. Hopefully, that never happens.

However, if I hypothetically do shoot myself, I'm not going to make a false police report and say that someone else shot me in a robbery. That's taking an embarrassing situation and turning it into a criminal act. I just don't understand the thought process here. What in the world would he have done if the police had arrested someone based on his report?

I just don't get it. On the subject of shooting yourself, it can definitely happen. It happened to this guy:

Don't be that guy. Or Kenny Miles.

Unfit to Carry a Firearm

Some people are mentally mature enough to carry a firearm. Others are not.

If you aren't capable of safely operating a tool, don't. If you aren't psychologically capable of dealing with safety issues, don't do unsafe things.

This lady needs counseling. She's way over the top with the drama. Just because you are allowed to do something doesn't mean you should. I think the flaw in her main argument is that she projects her own stupidity, paranoia, and incompetence onto everyone else.

Gun Safety: It's Not Optional

It's sad because the guy died, but this is a good reminder to be safe at all times. Safety Rules from Grant:

- Always keep the muzzle pointed in a generally safe direction ("generally safe" means that should the gun unintentionally fire, it will not hurt or kill you or any other human being.)

- Always keep your fingers outside the trigger guard until you are actually ready to fire.

- Always remember that you are in control of a weapon, and if used negligently it may injure or kill you or someone else.

Don't be stupid or lazy when it comes to firearm safety, y'all.

How to Handle a Mountain Lion in Your Office

I think that most people would be happy to be in an office because that means they would be employed. In any event, here are the tips. My favorite part:
If it’s not attacking, “Don’t start macing it. People think they can walk up to an animal and gently deal with it. You can’t. Just get away from it.”
Good idea. Don't antagonize a wild animal. As always, Permanent Press is always here to help in situations where wild animals are loose. Mountain lions in the office, tigers in the bathroom...you know...whatever.

CWP Instructor Accidentally Shoots Student

A Spartanburg Police Department deputy accidentally shot a student at CWP class because someone violated both Rule #1 and Rule #2.
Smith was teaching a course at the Chesnee American Legion during the firing portion of the class. Sheriff Wright said the victim was standing next to another student who was having trouble with the grip of her .22 caliber pistol.

Sheriff Wright said the instructor was unaware the pistol was loaded and accidentally shot the victim in the arm and into her side.
Jeff Cooper's gun rules are for your safety and for that of your team. They are not flexible. You don't get a pass simply because you're experienced or an instructor. Either obey them or you are history. Is that clear?

Co-Sleeping With Your Baby

The Milwaukee Health Department runs an ad that says sleeping with your baby is like sleeping with a knife. Overdoing it a little?

This is clearly based on anecdotal evidence, but you can base anything on anecdotal evidence. I'm sure the Milwaukee Health Department has all their other problems solved, so they've moved on to the real problems of moms who sleep with their babies.

Gun Quote of the Day: Expecting Trouble?

"Why would you bring a pistol into the [library, fast food joint, park, mall etc.]? Are you expecting trouble?"

"Of course not! If I were expecting trouble I'd bring my rifle!"
